House Music Competition

This is surely the most anticipated competition of our interhouse calendar, and appearing only every other year, our pupils certainly look forward to it.

Burton Bank presented a highly choreographed performance of Our House, complete with energetic movement, plenty of character, and even a starring role for our very own Penuel D (Year 9), who appeared as the flower! The performance was full of enthusiasm and showcased the creativity and confidence that House Music encourages.

Collinson followed with a vibrant rendition of Africa, featuring a tremendous selection of solos that highlighted the musical talent within the House. Particular praise must go to Maria Z (Year 11), whose solo performance was especially memorable and warmly received by the audience.

Macgregor performed We Are the World and, despite being the smallest House, were certainly not overshadowed by their larger counterparts. They delivered their song with confidence, unity and infectious enthusiasm, proving that House spirit is not measured by numbers. Particular praise to Lara H (Year 10) and Anna K (Year 12) who sang solos with conviction and clarity.

Ridgeway took inspiration from Toy Story with their performance of You've Got a Friend in Me, but gave the song a uniquely international twist. Incorporating languages from Turkey, Germany, Iran, China and Japan, their performance beautifully reflected the distinctly multicultural nature of our boarding community and celebrated the diversity that makes the boarding community such a special place.

Oak also delighted the audience with their rendition of Beauty and the Beat and even invited me to accompany them. The reception from the other twelve Houses was absolutely tremendous, with the audience responding enthusiastically from start to finish. Their confident and polished performance was matched only by the warmth and support they received from their peers, creating one of the standout moments of the evening.

However, the biggest accolade of the day was Collinson being placed First! A truly exceptional achievement. Huge congratulations to all involved. Congratulations to Ridgeway also being placed fourth and Macgregor fifth – of thirteen!
