Lunar New Year Chapel

his week has been a truly special one as our pupils proudly led the Chapel Services for both Mill Hill and Mill Hill International delivering thoughtful and inspiring presentations that were warmly praised by staff and students alike.

Sahar E (Ridgeway) opened the service by reflecting on the meaning of a new year, a time to pause, rest and begin again, and shared that in 2024 the Chinese Lunar New Year was recognised by UNESCO as an important cultural tradition. Her words helped us all appreciate the global significance of this celebration.

Mandy M (Macgregor) spoke about her recent experience celebrating Lunar New Year in Hong Kong, bringing warmth and personal insight to the service. Joan Z (Ridgeway) shared a video she created about Chinese New Year traditions, celebrating her family memories and cultural heritage, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Zijia G (Ridgeway) offered a fascinating perspective by exploring cultural taboos associated with Lunar New Year across countries including China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Korea, both fun and informative. Rachel T (Ridgeway) then hosted a interactive quiz, with pupils and staff enthusiastically testing their knowledge.

The service concluded beautifully with a reflective piano performance by Jubilee W (Ridgeway), before pupils received traditional red envelopes symbolising good luck and positive wishes for the year ahead.
