Meet Terry H: Senior Boys’ Basketball Captain

We are incredibly proud and honoured to celebrate our first Sports Captain. Terry H (Collinson) has been selected as the Senior Boys’ Basketball Captain. He has also been selected as Athlete of the Week!

Our Head of Basketball, Coach Ordouei, shared his thoughts on the appointment:
“I selected Terry as captain due to his outstanding leadership qualities and the consistently high standards he sets for himself and others. Terry’s commitment and dedication to the team are evident in every training session and game, and he leads by example both on and off the court. He has built strong, respectful relationships with both players and staff, creating a positive team environment and helping to bring the best out of those around him."

We caught up with Terry to found out more about his love for basketball:

1. What first inspired you to get involved in the sport you play, and how did you get started?

I started basketball in 2018 after being inspired by watching Kyrie Irving’s highlights. The way he played really motivated me to try and develop those kinds of skills myself. At the same time, there was always a bit of friendly competition between me and my friends, and that pushed me to get involved and want to be the best out of us.

2. How long have you been playing your sport, and what has kept you passionate about it?

I’ve been playing since 2018, and what has kept me passionate is the constant opportunity to improve and compete. There’s always something new to work on in basketball, and that drive to get better, along with playing with and against my friends, has kept me motivated over the years.

3. What do you enjoy most about being a student athlete?

My favourite part of being a student athlete is helping to lead my team, both in training sessions and during games. I enjoy supporting my teammates, encouraging them, and helping to keep everyone focused and working together.

4. What is a memorable moment or achievement in your sporting journey so far?

A memorable moment for me was a team talk we had in the locker room after a loss. It wasn’t about the result, but about reminding ourselves to stay confident and keep working hard. It really showed the character of the team and brought us closer together.

5. What goals or ambitions do you have for the future, both in your sport and beyond?

My goal for next season is to see our team playing in the finals and hopefully finishing the season as champions. I want to keep improving my own performance while helping the team achieve our goals.
