  • Pupil Athlete of the Week: Ryan S
February 2, 2026

We are excited to introduce a new feature where we shine the spotlight on one of our outstanding pupil athletes here at MHI.

First up is Ryan S, who has proudly represented both Mill Hill International and Mill Hill School in Volleyball and Badminton.

Name: Ryan S

Year: 11T

What first inspired you to get involved in your sport, and how did you get started?

I was inspired by Yuji Nishida from Japan. Despite being shorter than many players on the world stage, he trained hard, perfected his jump, and proved height doesn’t define success. His determination made me want to play volleyball.
I started Volleyball through the school’s volleyball club, which meets every Thursday, and I often practise with other members after school or on weekends.

How long have you been playing, and what keeps you passionate about it?

I’ve been playing volleyball for about three years and hope to continue at a higher level with more fixtures and competitions. I stay passionate because of the excitement of playing and the support from friends and Ms Bjelica, who encourage me and help me improve.

What do you enjoy most about being a student athlete?

I enjoy representing the school and having opportunities to compete against other schools. Even when we lose, it helps me spot what I need to improve, making me a stronger player for future matches.

What is a memorable moment or achievement from your sporting journey?

My favourite memories aren’t from matches, but from the moments in Badminton and Volleyball clubs — meeting new people, sharing jokes, and being part of a welcoming group. Those small moments shaped who I am on the court.

What are your goals for the future, in sport and beyond?

I hope to become a professional esports player in Mobile Legends or represent Singapore in volleyball. Whatever path I take, the teamwork, communication and resilience I’ve learned through volleyball will stay with me. I know both dreams come with challenges, but they’re my passions, and I want to inspire others to follow theirs too.
