  • Rights Respecting Award at Silver level
May 19, 2026

We are delighted to announce that our school has achieved the Rights Respecting Award at Silver level.

"This is a significant milestone and one that reflects the collective commitment of our whole community to putting our pupils’ rights at the heart of school life.

The accreditation visit on Tuesday measured our pupils’ understanding of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and looked at pupil voice and participation, classroom ethos and relationships and what it means to be a global citizen. Assessors from UNICEF met with pupils, staff and a Governor and me to discuss what we do at Mill Hill International to be a Rights Respecting School. They were unequivocal in their praise of the school, noting how pupils at the school have a clear voice and feel heard.

This award belongs to all of us: pupils who speak up with confidence and kindness, staff who champion pupils’ rights in classrooms and beyond, and families who support and reinforce these values at home. I am proud to be working in a community where everyone feels they belong and where rights go hand in hand with respect and responsibility.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this achievement, to Dr Biswas in particular who, as the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead, has worked tirelessly on this throughout the year. My thanks extend to the group of pupils, who have been working alongside Dr Biswas working as a team in weekly meetings promoting a rights-respecting environment: Year 9 pupil Sumile M (Oak); Year 10 pupil Mandy M (Macgregor); Year 11 pupils Aruzhan S (Collinson), Ayaz G (Oak), David U (Oak), Evelyn D (Macgregor), Ibrokhim K (Burton Bank), Lottie J (Ridgeway), Masal T (Ridgeway), Mieke O (Macgregor), and Year 12 students Sahar E (Ridgeway) and Binay S (Ridgeway).

We look forward to continuing our journey as a Rights Respecting community and plan to prepare for the Rights Respecting Gold Award."
