Welcome
"The sun always shines on Mill Hill" is a mantra often repeated by colleagues here at the Mill Hill, which so aptly reflects the exceptional experience for all those who are part of our Schools. Nestled within 150 acres of picturesque grounds, our boarding community offers both the tranquillity of the countryside and the vibrancy of nearby central London. This unique blend provides pupils with the opportunity to explore the city’s iconic landmarks while enjoying a serene, supportive environment.
Our four Boarding Houses, led by dedicated Housemasters and Housemistresses, are home to over 220 full and weekly boarders from both Mill Hill School and Mill Hill International. Here, pupils experience a warm, home-away-from-home atmosphere, fostering intercultural respect and a strong sense of community.
With a diverse range of on-campus activities, excursions to London, and special events, boarders at Mill Hill create lifelong memories. Our commitment to providing an enriching, balanced environment ensures that every pupil feels valued, accepted and prepared for life as a global citizen.
Mr Jordan Meakin
Assistant Head (Boarding)
Boarding at Mill Hill International
The boarding offer at Mill Hill International is second to none, and we are proud of the 24/7 care we provide for our community of 200 boarders. In many ways, these pupils get the fullest experience and value from their time at Mill Hill.
Although we are a majority day school now, boarding will always be core to the philosophy and culture of Mill Hill. It’s an integral part of the history of the School, and many of our structures and systems are geared towards boarders (e.g. a longer school day). Day pupils, of course, benefit from this approach as well.
Our four historic boarding Houses provide the perfect setting for their pupils. The spacious 120-acre campus is a beautiful environment in which to live and study. We are also just 30 minutes away from central London, which allows pupils to explore the city at the weekends.
Friendliness and warmth are at the heart of our boarding community, allowing pupils to have a ‘home-away-from home’ whilst living and learning at Mill Hill. Our boarders’ views and opinions are important in how we run the boarding houses and their voice is represented when designing rules and timetables. We also prioritise giving our pupils unique and enriching experiences, and celebrating the diverse cultures we have within the houses. The School’s close proximity to London allows us to organise a variety of fun and exciting trips which are complemented by a range of weekly on-campus activities and special occasions for pupils.
Boarding Options
Pupils can opt to join the boarding community as either Full or Weekly Boarders.
Full Boarding predominantly appeals to our international pupils, or pupils whose parents don’t live locally. Full Boarders are supported by an education Guardian of their choosing.
Weekly Boarding is convenient for pupils whose parents live more locally, but who wish to benefit from the structure offered by a more flexible boarding opportunity. Our Weekly Boarders return home on Friday evening, or Saturday morning if they have Activities or Sports commitments to fulfil, and return to school on Sunday evening or Monday morning.
The flexibility offered within our Boarding provision makes it an appealing and practical option.
