Year 10
The Two-Year GCSE course follows the Key Stage 4 curriculum and offers a broad range of subjects.
Pupils are advised to think about breadth of study although this may not always be appropriate or achievable. Throughout the course the pupils will also be prepared for Sixth Form (A Level) study.
The small class sizes and the high level of individual care offered by the school makes this an excellent choice for pupils for whom English is their first language and who would benefit from the increased level of attention. The course is also tailored to international pupils who wish to improve their English whilst following a traditional programme of academic subjects.
Two-Year GCSE pupils study Mathematics, English and one Science as their core curriculum. Pupils can then take five additional subjects. Where the EAL need is great, the number of subject options are reduced to facilitate the additional English language support.
Organisation of the Curriculum
The structure of the curriculum in 2023-2025 is as follows:
Core examined subjects | English (First Language or Second Language, as appropriate), Mathematics, One Science. |
Other Examined Subjects | Art and Design, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design and Technology (DT), Economics, English Literature, Geography, History, GCSE Physical Education (PE), Physics, Psychology, Spanish. |
Non-examined | Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE), Physical Education (PE). |
Games and Activities | All pupils participate in the School’s co-curricular programme. Pupils in Year 10 will also have a session of Games each week. |
Community | All pupils have the opportunity to participate in community-action activities. Also offered is the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award (Silver) over two years. |
Optional Extra | GCSE examination in the pupil’s native language (if available). |
